APHL 2022 Newborn Screening Symposium

October 16-20, 2022

General Information

Program Schedule: The 2022 Newborn Screening Symposium (NBSS) is scheduled for October 16-20, 2022 in Tacoma, WA. It will be held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center with sleeping rooms at the Marriott Tacoma Downtown Hotel and the Hotel Murano.

All sessions and events will take place in the convention center. The symposium begins at 4:00pm on Sunday and adjourns on Thursday at 12:00pm. There will be included luncheons on Tuesday and Wednesday, a reception Sunday evening, Meet the Manufacturers on Tuesday evening and an off-site event on Wednesday evening. The general sessions and roundtables will be held on the third floor of the convention center. The exhibits and posters will take place in Exhibit Halls AB on the fifth floor and will be open Sunday evening and all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. An optional tour of the Washington State Newborn Screening Laboratory will take place on Thursday afternoon. Early signup is required.

Registration materials may be picked-up at the Registration Desk on the third floor of the convention center.

Hotel: We have a blocks of sleeping rooms at the Marriott Tacoma Downtown Hotel, 1538 Commerce St., Tacoma, WA 98402, 253.294.9200 and the Hotel Murano, 1320 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402, 253.238-8000. The Marriott (headquarters hotel) is attached to the convention center while the Murano is one short block away. Both hotels are located in downtown Tacoma, a short walk to numerous restaurants and shops. Reservation details may be found at www.aphl.org/nbs2022.

Transportation: Tacoma and Seattle share the Seattle-Tacoma (SEA-TAC) International Airport which is halfway between both. It (SEA) is serviced by all major airlines. It is 30 minutes from downtown Tacoma and easily reachable by cab, shared ride or shuttle. Premier Airport Shuttle (www.premierairportshuttle.com) provides shuttle service to the downtown Tacoma hotels. Neither hotel provides a complimentary airport shuttle. Amtrak has a station downtown about a mile from the convention center.

Meals: Morning coffee and breaks on Monday through Thursday, lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday and a reception on Sunday evening will be provided. All other eating opportunities are on your own. There are restaurants in both hotels and other restaurants and drinking establishments are a short walk or cab/Uber/Lift ride away.
