DESCRIPTION

There are over 200 Mycobacterium species that are increasingly associated with infections and outbreaks. Rapid and accurate identification of Mycobacterium species, especially M. tuberculosis, is essential for patient management and public health response. Many laboratories have implemented MALDI-TOF MS as a primary means of Mycobacterial identification. In this webinar, speakers familiar with the Biomeriux Vitek® MS and the BD™ Bruker MALDI Biotyper® will highlight considerations and processes associated with implementation of MALDI-TOF MS in the mycobacteriology laboratory.

OBJECTIVES

After completing this webinar the participant will be able to:

Discuss how utilization of MALDI-TOF MS impacts workflow in a Mycobacteriology laboratory
Describe inactivation and extraction methods used for identification of Mycobacteria by MALDI-TOF MS
Identify the challenges associated with the use of MALDI-TOF MS for identification of Mycobacteria

AUDIENCE

This program is intended for anyone who works in or supervises a public health or clinical laboratory, including clinical and public health laboratory staff, microbiology students, epidemiologists and research scientists.
